Whitney made his lone NHL appearance to date against the Washington Capitals on January 24, 2014. I think it was
because somebody was hurt, I honestly don't remember now. His involvement was pretty... uneventful, we'll say, as
he had 11 shifts while seeing fourth line ice time.
That game wasn't indicative, though, of what he has done since coming out of Boston College.
He had a PTO with the Portland Pirates first after his senior year was over, but during the summer of 2011, he signed a
minor league deal with the Devils. In both seasons as minor league property, he lead the A-Devs in scoring with 44 and
51 points, respectively. It was enough for him to land a two-way contract in the summer of 2013.
Not only had he made his NHL debut during the year, he lead the A-Devs in scoring again, as well as the team seeing
Calder Cup playoff action for the first time since the AHL affiliate was moved back to Albany.
His year with the Islanders' organization was strictly for Bridgeport. He had his lowest output of his professional
career, although 33 points is still not bad. He'll be playing in the Avs' organization for 16-17.
