Regular Season Statistics with the Franchise
Smith was a viable veteran goalie and a 3-time WHA All-Star with the New England Whalers. He was good at playing
the puck and wasn't afraid to stand up for himself with opposing forwards.

As history proved, coming to the Rockies was just winding down a career. And not really in a good way, either. Regular
starter, yes, good. For a last place team, no, bad.

Chico Resch coming to the team meant Smith would no longer be the starter, so he opted to retire and moved to
Vancouver to become a car salesman, and later a salesman for the Reuters news service. He would return to
Toronto and became an author and playwright. Some of his more well known works include
The Tragedy of
Lake Tuscarora
, which, if I'm not mistaken, was unfinished, and Confessions to Anne Sexton.

He passed away from pancreatic cancer.
