Stats in bold signifies team leader.
The 2013 season proved that the Devils were thin as far as goal scoring was concerned, so Lou Lamoriello attempted to
remedy that with the signing of Ryder.
He has scored 30 goals in a season multiple times: twice while with the Habs, and a career high 35 with the Stars in 11-
12. If the 12-13 season was played in his entirety, he probably would have had a fourth; he had 16 in 46 games.
I know people talk about improving the power play until their blue in the face, but he was one that can do just that; he
was good for 10 goals or close to it. He was actually in the top 10 in the league 2013 in PPGs. (8)
He was also a very durable player (He hasn't missed many games in his career, and further proven when he played all
82 in his first season in New Jersey.), and was a player that helped a team provide offense as a unit rather than depend
on one player. It may sound like a jab at Ilya Kovalchuk, but it's not meant to be, and it goes back to my reference to
the lack of offensive depth from the prior season.
He had only played 47 games the following season; most of those misses were in the second half of the season as a
healthy scratch. It was to the point where he asked to be traded, but nothing materialized because, as he put it, it's
hard to move a guy who's not playing.
As a free agent right now, his future is up in the air. (In the League, nevermind with the Devils.)
