Stats in bold signifies team leader.
Over his first few seasons with the Blue Jackets, Prout worked to become a regular in their lineup. An injury at the
beginning of the 16-17 season changed things, however, to the point where he became the 7th defenseman after he
got healthy. So until the trade to the Devils, he hadn't seen a lot of games that season.
Prout was known for his physical game as he turned pro, and has worked on his positioning to become a reliable
stay-at-home defender. Said physicality was what got Ray Shero's attention; it was an immediate need.
He was never known for his offense, however, although in his final OHL season, split between Barrie and
Saginaw, he did get 22 assists. (That always seems to happen: "career" years in a player's final junior season.)
With another year still left on his current contract, it's plenty of time to get his game back on track, as long as more
questionable suspensions don't occur.
