Stats in bold signifies team leader.
While for a few seasons he was playing a role that was bestowed upon him as a ninth round pick, it was while with the
Islanders that Parenteau had picked up his game in a major way to become a mainstay in the bigs. (Note: he had posted
numbers similar to what he had with the Isles in every stop he made in the AHL.)
His game tailed off slightly after he was traded to the Canadiens in the summer of 2014. (By Colorado, by the way.)
Playing a year under Mike Babcock in Toronto helped right the ship.
Which made him an attractive waiver claim when the Islanders decide to go with some of the younger players that
performed well in camp in 2016, not only with adding potential secondary scoring (I know they need primary scoring
first, but let that play out on a long enough timeline.), but at his age, he can provide some leadership for a now-
decisively younger team.
After the claim, he was already determined to "prove the Islanders wrong." The first month of the season has worked
out as having done so, so that's a good sign for now.
