Much has been made about Palmieri being from New Jersey during his first season. (He grew up in Montvale, played
in the Devils' youth program as a kid, and played his high school hockey at St. Peter's Prep in Jersey City.) Okay, I get
the hometown pride.
... But can he deliver some goals?
After having some very good years in the AHL, he graduated to the Ducks' NHL lineup, but struggled a little bit to
duplicate the numbers that he got while playing with the Syracuse Crunch. Although 14 goals and 30 points aren't bad;
he just happened to be playing behind Corey Perry.
So that more or less opened the door for Ray Shero to make his first big trade as Devils' GM just before the Entry
Draft. Palmieri responded by having a career year and then some.
So for the 15-16 season, he epitomized the "local boy who makes good." The following season: he proved to be integral.
