Up until 07-08, Mottau had been a career minor leaguer. Opportunity presented itself when Colin White was down with
his eye injury, though. (Oddly enough, they would eventually become regular defense partners.)
He did have some offensive skills (He WAS a Hobey Baker winner back at BC.), but his defensive play left a lot to
be desired. And it showed frequently during the year.
He did have one stretch at midseason where everything was clicking for him. I'll give him that, even if nobody else will.
In fact, he did maintain some good play with the puck.
In the end, there are a lot of Devils fans that won't ever like Mottau. "It's too close!"

He did not see a lot of games in the two years he was with the Islanders. In a strange twist of fate, his absence during
the 10-11 season was primarily from an eye injury.
After he was traded to Boston, he didn't stick around for very long in subsequent stops, either. He had largely played in
