It had been a long time since the Devils had a top 10 draft pick. (1996) Even longer since a top 5 one. (1991) The light
at the end of the dark tunnel that was the 10-11 season was that they got the prior... and winning the draft lottery got
them the latter.
To summarize what happened next: Welcome to North America, Adam Larsson.
Oh, what to say, what to say... Top ranked defenseman in the draft, top ranked European in the draft, already compared
to Nicklas Lidstrom, quiet, calm to the point that sometimes you have to check his pulse to make sure he's alive... I'll
I've said for years now that with everybody locking up their star D-men long term, the only way the Devils were gonna
get one themselves is through the draft. Sure enough, they had one that was just a matter of getting through the
growing pains of the first few seasons...
But it's also not every day that a team has a chance to acquire someone like a Taylor Hall. You can't give someone shit
and expect gold in return. Thus, I hated to see Larsson go, but recognize the need for more scoring and ultimately
welcome Hall's arrival.
