When the rumors started swirling around, I honestly never thought that Kovalchuk would be a Devil. But even pursuing
him showed everybody that Lou Lamoriello was going for it.
He's got it all. Size, strength, speed, skill. His heart was questioned in Atlanta, but upon arrival in New Jersey, he
showed that he had that, too. The common belief is that he didn't like playing in Atlanta.
His defensive game is questioned, too, but that's nothing that can't be fixed. That's 8 years worth of bad habits that the
Devils' coaching were trying to undo, and results have been showing.
Even if it was a rental move ultimately... a 3 and a half year rental, it was a gamble that Lou needed to take at the time...
Twice. And I'm referring to "The Summer of Kovy" there.
I remember that he had mentioned that the Cup was a priority when coming to New Jersey. Well, he did get A Cup
in 2015... The Gagarin Cup, not the Stanley Cup.
