Higgins was a capable secondary scorer when he was with the Hawks. He had been struggling and feuding with his
coaches in Chicago the season the Devils got him, so it was clear that a change of scenery worked for him when he
got on a hot streak to finish it out.
In general, he stayed the course as a Devil.
As a Red Wing, though, injuries became more frequent and limited his impact. He didn't miss a whole bucketload of
games, thankfully, but his points output had noticeably dipped. By his last season, he also saw games in Adirondack,
his first AHL games in a decade.
He would be released at the end of the 88-89 season, and retired not long after.
The only info I have of his post-playing days is that he did return to the Blackhawks as an amateur scout in the late 90s,
and worked there for 7 seasons. I have no info about what he's doing now.
