Helgeson wasn't the type of defenseman that will light up the scoreboard for you. At the time, the Devils had enough
of those already. What he COULD do is play a very good defensive game, and especially impose his will physically,
a point that some of the other D-men in the system aren't able to do right now, and has been missing on the Devils'
backline for quite a while now.

That isn't to say that he's a slug offensively. His passing in particular, notably his outlet passing, has gotten better as
a pro.

So, while on the surface, his game is a simple one, it's still an effective one. As long as he doesn't become a victim of
the numbers game, he can prove to be a compliment, actually, to the Merrills and the Larssons of the day.

With Travis Hamonic being traded to the Flames prior to the 2017 draft, he could get a chance to break through as a
regular NHLer with the Isles in the fall.
