They don't call Gionta "The Rochester Rocket" just as a marketing ploy. I mean, he WAS the smallest guy in the league
(the arrival of Nathan Gerbe in 2008 pushed him to #2), and small = fast.
At the same time, though, he isn't afraid to take his bumps down low. That's largely how he scored all those goals in 05-
06, especially on the man advantage.
I should also mention him one time owning Zdeno Chara, the BIGGEST guy in the league. (snickers)
What I couldn't understand is... he has had decent offensive outputs since he set the team record for goals, yet some fans
say he isn't doing anything for the team goalwise.
C'mon, people! Are we as fans really that spoiled to expect him to get 48 goals EVERY year? I know I'm not.
With the Habs, he was one of the players looked at for leadership his first season there, when they didn't have a captain
named. He was considered their "unofficial" captain, actually. For the start of the 10-11 season, they made it official,
making him the second American behind Chris Chelios to be named captain of the team.
He would sign with the Sabres in 2014, and was almost immediately named their captain.
