Immediately upon signing with the Devils, a few fans had nicknamed Gazdic "Taylor Hall's bodyguard." Yup, that's
what he brings to the table: that physical edge, and the token fighter on the team.
The only time he's broken double figures in scoring as a pro was when he played for the Texas Stars, and he did that 3
times: 17, 23, and 11 between 10-11 and 12-13.
He's also only had one full-time season in the NHL, back in 13-14, his first season with the Oilers. That season, he
logged 127 PIMs in 67 games.
Since that year, he had been going between the N and the A, even with the Devils. (Although in this case, I think it was
kind of a necessary move, as he did get hurt near the end of training camp and was out for 4 weeks.) He saw 13 games
with Albany before making his New Jersey debut in December.
As far as being Hall's bodyguard, considering the timing of his arrival, the team needed more of a wake up call than a
protector of their star player.
