Lou Lamoriello actually had his eye on Butler before he signed with the Senators. He had a good college career at New
Hampshire, including a senior season worthy of being named a Hobey Baker finalist.
Opportunity came knocking for Lou to sign him when he fell out of favor with Paul MacLean and wasn't used that
much in games. With the lockout, he would be playing in Albany, earning a trip to the AHL All-Star game, his second
selection. But it was in the cards that he would get a shot or two at the NHL level, whether or not the lockout
happened that season.
Thus, he made his Devils debut at Nassau Coliseum on Super Bowl Sunday.
A friend said that he was surprised that Lou went after someone whose defensive game was in question. I told him that
it's a low risk move with high reward, and that that was Lou's MO more so than picking up someone that had a clue on
Ultimately, as you can see, nothing really came of the chance. He actually did better while with the Predators, though.
... And with the San Antonio Rampage in the 2 seasons after when he was in the Florida Panters' organization. (Those
seasons were actually his best 2 as a pro, with 47 points in 13-14, then 59 the following season.)
He then gave Europe a try, playing for Modo in Sweden for one season. Currently, he's playing for Medveščak
Zagreb of the KHL.
