Brown became a very effective defensive player and penalty killer once he joined the Devils. In his rookie season, he
scored 4 shorthanded goals. I think that set an NHL record for rookies at the time. (It was definitely a team record
until John Madden came along.)
He thrived in playing in a fast-paced system. While his numbers as a Devil weren't bad with all things considered, he
would have his best offensive season the year after he left with the Devils. Of course, playing with the likes of Mario
Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr, among others, would help there.
He would only stay in Pittsburgh for one season. He joined the Detroit Red Wings on waivers the following season, and
would have success there, having won 2 Stanley Cups with them near the end of the decade and was an integral part of
the team defense as he was when in New Jersey.
He called it quits in 2001, and is currently employed by Veritas-Global, a business investigative firm based in
