Auvitu would be the winner of the "obscure European superstar" signing during the 2016 offseason for the Devils;
Until the announcement that he signed, he was only known in the Eurohockey circles, particularly that of his home
country (he's a staple for the French national team in international play) and that of Finland, where he decided to
move to in order to further his development.
He was only expecting to be there a few years; during his time, he also earned a bachelor's degree in international
business, and is very close to getting his masters in business administration from JAMK University for Applied
Sciences. He never expected to become the best defenseman in the Finnish League, which is what happened in 2016.
Ray Shero was watching the World Championships and had a talk with Auvitu during the tournament. He was prepared
to provide an out clause for him if it wasn't working out after a few months, but Auvitu told him that if he comes, he's
here to stay, he wants the full experience.
The way he's been playing at the start of the season, though, makes the proposed out clause look like an afterthought.
He has brought the lunch pail, and has not looked out of place at all. The only thing missing was the production.
As part of the "full experience," he would also see 29 games with Albany, scoring 13 points in the process.
